Angels, demons and elephants

The day of our first organized trekking trip had arrived! Apparently that is what travelers do, so thats what we do! Very original, we know! Anyways, we bought this one day trekking program at our hostel, and early next morning we got picked up by shabby truck. Not to sure about what this day was gonna bring, we jumped in

Luckily it didn't take long before we got company, and soon the empty truck was filled with a good bunch of very different people.

First stop was the famous local butterfly and orchid farm

Lina was, as always, very interested.

Next off was the part we had been looking forward to the most. Trekking up the mountains

We walked up to a tiny little village where they had 5 massive elephants walking around! It was really strange to see these animals up close like that.

Unfortunately we realized quite quickly that the idyllic facade of this place was not the reality. Even though it was an experience to ride the elephants, we will never do it again after seeing the way they treated them to please the many many tourists passing through every day.

We felt so bad that we bought a bunch of bananas.

Another highlight of the day was white water rafting.

Our designated guide was apparently there to get us safely down the river, but after listening to his instructions before we started, we were doubting if we should even jump in the boat. We did not understand a word of his english!

So what happens if you out 4 unexperienced girls in a boad and send them down the river? Nothing.

We got down in the end, but it was anything other than an "after-the-book-raft", and we swapped to some way more relaxing bamboo rafting
